Hi there! I’m Daniel Paricio, a 27-year-old from Spain, now living in Paris, France. I studied aerospace engineering in Madrid and Delft, and currently, I work in the space sector. I'm passionate about many things, but probably one of the biggest is learning. I love learning new things, whether it’s languages, history, places, music…
I created this blog as a way to crystallize my learning in two ways: First, by pushing myself to engage more deeply with the material, knowing that I’ll need to write about it and explain it to others. Second, by providing a well-structured and easily accessible space where I can revisit what I've learned over time.
Initially, I’ll focus on documenting my journey exploring machine learning, a topic I’ve touched on before, but now I’m decided to explore much more in depth on my own to see where it takes me 🙂
I’ve always found computers fascinating since I was young. I would ask my mom for money to buy the next installment of a collection on how to build your own PC, which explained how different parts worked and interacted. And truth to be said, even today that we’re so used to computers, there’s still something magical about them.
I discovered and started to learn how to talk to computers “late” in life, at the beginning of my bachelor years. It was first Fortran (!), then Matlab, and eventually Python, and C++. My first personal projects were done in Matlab. I remember doing a crappy program using Matlab's GUIs and some basic knowledge of optimization and tree search algorithms. The program could take a drawing and find a constellation from actual star catalogs that most resembled the input drawing. At that time I did also a (equally crappy) C++ program to learn vocabulary using spaced repetition, which I used while learning French or Dutch.
It was around that time when I entered in contact with machine learning, when I took a MOOC in deep learning offered by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Although I found it fascinating, I didn’t pursue further, as I already had enough to learn during my master’s.
During my first working years, I gained knowledge and experience in navigation, mission analysis, and flight dynamics, while also expanding my skills in C, Python, version control systems, CI/CD, and more. It was a fantastic mix of physics, optimization, and programming. I learned about non-linear programming, convex optimization, control theory, and I even joined a machine learning guidance working group.
Besides all of that, I also love music and play the piano in my spare time. I'm a fan of classical, jazz, and latin music. I love exploring new places (preferably warmer than here) and going out on my bike with no particular destination in mind.
